Within this divide, premature aging and sickness develop more quickly due to the lack of connection between our body and soul.

This is why, when we observe the gerontological population, they appear to return to a natural state, eating two to three smaller, well-balanced meals. Along with a decline in metabolic need, I believe that this stage in life prepares us to let go of feelings that are no longer beneficial. In doing so, we become more open to connecting with the present moment, and our desire to eat for reasons outside of physiological need naturally disappears.

When we contemplate how we eat, what is often revealed is a mindless, hectic pattern of intake. Mindful eating, on the other hand, is a powerful tool that involves savoring each bite, chewing slowly, and being fully present in the moment.

To practice mindful eating, start by eliminating distractions during meals, such as TV or smartphones. Focus on the taste, texture, and smell of your food. Chew each bite thoroughly and pay attention to your body’s signals of hunger and fullness. This approach can transform a simple meal into a spiritual practice and a way to truly connect with your food.
